The very special, very old, reclaimed wood in this piece was from an old deconstructed ranch found on the sand dune reserve of Maui. Taryn was fascinated by the beautifully worn character and history of the wood and what stories it may have to tell. She wanted to preserve its natural beauty as much as possible and portray the many generations of surfers it must have seen in its lifetime. The figures were first drawn in by burning the wood, and finished in oil paint. Modeling paste was used to sculpt out the sea foam, and vintage Hawaiian coffee bags used for the sand. The brothers pictured are very dear friends of Taryn, who have always been helpful in the evolution of her art career.
