Taryn's brother-in-law is a tile master and he always saves his scraps for her. When he gave her abalone, Taryn knew exactly what she wanted to do with it. She says she's always been awestruck by shimmering white sand beaches, and abalone was the perfect material to exemplify that. Although the brother-in-law may have been a little surprised when she started crushing it up...The sky is made of many many layers of colored modeling paste & crackle paste, layered with gold leaf and iridescence and sanded back down- revealing luminescence through the cracks. The water is glazed silver leafing, and the grasses are lined with copper leaf for that "glowing" effect. This beach is one Taryn dreamt up - to her, it's a combination of sandy East Coast beaches & dunes where she grew up and vibrant Hawaiian waters. Both are very close to her heart.
