The monochromatic colors of "Midsummer Night" create a calming effect on the viewer. As the sun rises or sets, sunlight has to pass through more air than in the daytime. When sunlight travels through more atmosphere, it provides more molecules to scatter the violet and blue light. This period during twilight is referred to as the "blue hour", when indirect sunlight is evenly diffused. This was the inspiration and the goal; to incorporate those elements of light passing through the atmosphere and clouds as light is reflected from the water.
